Rome. Probably one of the more hectic cities I’ve visited. I swear people here just throw caution to the wind when they drive, although it’s NOTHING like China. Now they are just nuts.
We arrived in Rome in the afternoon and after settling into our hotel, followed a walk suggested by the ever-popular Rick Steves. It was a nice walk, starting at Piazza del Popolo, down Via del Corso and up Via Condotti to the Spanish Steps. Instead of heading all the way down Via del Corso though, we took a detour after the Spanish Steps to go see the Fontana di Trevi at night. It’s one of my favorite sights in Rome and it was even better than I remembered. We ended up walking up from the side of the fountain rather than the front so I tried to steer the family towards a frontal view so that they could have that breathtaking, jaw-dropping moment when seeing the Trevi for the first time. I still have that feeling when I see it. Unfortunately, it was probably peak time for crowds to gather for the night view so it was difficult getting down to the actual fountain to throw our coins in, but we managed to make at least one wish apiece.

When we got home later that night, I read that for good luck, three coins should be thrown with one’s right hand over their left shoulder. Great..should probably have read that BEFORE we went. Oh well, I didn’t know this before and it ensured my return to Rome regardless!
